A New Beginning To Journalism

Journalism students spend a week in D.C.

Hayley Keith, Journalist

Kiarah Bates, a sophomore, and Hayley Keith, a senior were chosen to participate in an all expenses paid JEA (Journalism Education Association) conference in Washington D.C. after our adviser Mrs. Emerson applied for the first-time adviser’s grant. We learned new techniques to use in journalism through workshops and sessions with professional journalists. We were chaperoned by the newspaper adviser, Mrs. Emerson, and we spent the few days we had in D.C., when we weren’t in classes, exploring museums. We visited several different memorials, the Newseum, The National Archives and we went on a trolley tour of the historic monuments at night. It was a great experience and we learned so much that we will be able to use to better our publication.
